Ways to Improve EV Performance and Charging for Road Trips

Electric vehicles (EVs) are relatively new innovations that have taken off in the short time they’ve been around. They’re also having a major and ever-changing impact. They give off virtually no carbon emissions and offer a path for environmentalists and anyone concerned about energy policy and emissions to opt into.

The battery of the vehicle is what makes these innovations possible. However, it’s important to properly address the charging and battery of the vehicle when driving long distances. Road trips, for instance, require the best planning to get the most out of an EV.

The Right EV Performance

When consumers look for an EV, they must also consider the battery’s efficiency and performance. It’s the electric equivalent of miles-per-gallon in a gas-powered car. The key is finding an EV that will drive a long distance in the same way that gas cars do.

The good news is that some EVs have the capability to drive far. However, not all do. In fact, Tesla models are seemingly the only cars that are reaching and exceeding the 300-mile range. Less expensive brands will have a range within 100 or 200 miles.

Thus, finding the right EV can be a tricky process. Consumers want cars that can travel the same distances as gas cars without environmental harm. For ideal performance, EV owners must use the battery in the right way as well. The best planning and charging techniques are how drivers can get the most out of their EV.

Planning and Charging

Electric vehicles come with plenty of innovative systems and gadgets. For instance, liquid cooling tech for EV traction helps the car navigate through any conditions. As for charging, the car has tech options that consumers should use as well.

First, you will need to understand the mileage that your vehicle provides. If it’s a high amount, then you can give your planning some leeway. A Tesla may last for longer distances than other brands and models on the market. Once you know how far you can make it and how many miles your road trip is, then you can plan in earnest.

Map out your journey. On a site like Google Maps, you can type into the search bar “EV charging stations” and it will pull up results near you or along your route. However, other sites for trip planning take it a step further. A resource like EV Trip Planner lets you map out your journey while finding the best places to recharge along the way.

Start your journey with a full charge. You can do this with your at-home charging station. That way, you can put off finding a charging location until later. Then, use the info from your map plan and decide where you should stop to recharge. Take into account any traffic or other stops you might make as well as how long it takes to charge your battery, too.

Finally, research charging stations at or near your destination. It’s always safe to have resources nearby in case the battery dies. Cities tend to have more charging stations than rural areas. Keep this information in mind as you find stations. If your battery does die, contact roadside assistance quickly.

EV Improvements and Evolution

As more people invest in EVs, the industry should evolve and improve to fit the needs and demands of the consumers. For instance, EV companies will need to improve mileage even further to realistically compete with gas-powered cars. However, electric vehicles have already demonstrated that they are more affordable to own over time than vehicles with internal combustion engines. This is because of lower maintenance costs.

Additionally, cities and locations should be adding more EV charging stations to make them more abundant. On highways, especially, chargers should be as frequent as rest stops and should be available off exits at places like gas stations.

Furthermore, any place that’s a popular tourist stop or destination should have EV chargers, too. Restaurants, hotels and museums can all adapt to new norms and create EV accommodations.

Finally, EVs should integrate more artificial intelligence (AI) into their systems. With AI monitoring energy and battery power, the car can proactively alert drivers when they need to recharge and then show nearby stations.

A Practical Ride

Electric vehicles are critical for reducing carbon emissions. They help the environment and save consumers money, since they don’t have to pay for gas and maintenance is proving far more affordable over time. With the right innovations and wise planning, drivers can have a safe, efficient road trip while only needing a charge or two on the way. The industry must then adapt in the near future to brings EVs even more into the mainstream.

    Dear Emily,
I read your article with interest. You were right on Electric vehicles, has less air pollution, less CO2 less CO, less carcinogenic chemicals, but to produce electricity we generally still use gas and oil. The real solution is to produce electricity more efficiently from sun and thermal layers of oceans and some water dams.
